This section describes how to manage models with public dimensions:

  • Opening and closing models with public dimensions
  • Creating new models with public dimensions
  • Saving models with public dimensions

Public Dimension Models can only be saved remotely (as remote files in the O3 Server), therefore the administration of these models is slightly different than the one of traditional models.

This functionality of O3 Performance Suite is also known as Public Metadata: more information about this feature can be found in this tutorial.

Opening a Public Dimensions Model

  1. Choose "Open" from the "File" menu.
This opens the Dialog box to indicate the model that you wish to open.
  2. Click on the Remote Files icon on the left to connect to the server and then select the .mdl file that you wish to open.

Closing a Public Dimensions Model

  1. Select the root of the model that you wish to close.
  2. Choose "Close" from the "File" menu or toolbar.
If the model has been modified you will be prompted to save the changes.

Creating a new Public Dimensions Model

Use the New Public Dimensions Model to create a new model.

  1. Choose "New Public Dimensions Model" from the "File" menu.
An empty model definition will be added to the Design Tree.
  2. Complete the information needed for the model in the Properties Pane as usual.
Notice that these models define no Measures

Saving a Cube Model

Use the Save or Save As command to save a cube model.
Bear in mind that Public Dimension Models can only be saved remotely (as remote files in the O3 Server)

To use the Save Command:

  1. Choose the "Save" option from the "File" menu.
If this is the first time you save the model, you will be prompted for a name and location.
Otherwise the model will just be saved in the already selected location.
  2. Indicate a name and location for the model
You should choose to save the model remotely in the O3 Server by choosing the Remote Files icon on the left
  3. Click on the Save button to accept the command.
A message will be displayed if the file already exists allowing you to overwrite it or choose another name or location.

To use the Save As command:

  1. Choose the "Save As" option from the "File" menu.
You will be prompted for a name and location.
  2. Indicate the name and location for the model.
You should choose to save the model remotely in the O3 Server by choosing the Remote Files icon on the left
  3. Click on the Save button to accept the command.
