O3 Browser lets you save and open desktops automatically, giving you the possibility to choose a default desktop and simplify the opening of the different necessary cubes for a given type of analysis.
The available operations are:
- Saving a Desktop.
- Saving a Desktop under another name
- Open an existing Desktop
- Configuring the default Desktop
- Creating a new Desktop
- Closing the current Desktop
Saving the Desktop
This option lets you save the desktop so that it can be retrieved later on.
To save the desktop you have to:
- Use the "Save Desktop" entry in the "File" menu to display the dialogue box that lets you select the location.
- Choose if the desktop will be saved, remotely in the server or locally, specifying one of the following options:
- "Local Files": where you must also state the path and name of the desktop.
- "Remote Files": stating the name of the desktop in the server.
- "Recent": stating a recently used path and the name of the desktop
- Confirm with the "Save" button.
The first time a Desktop is saved you must state the path where it will be saved, as indicated in step 2.
Whenever a Desktop is saved, the views included in it must also be saved, if these have been modified.
Saving the Desktop under another name
This option gives you the possibility to save the Desktop under a different name if it has already been saved or to give it a name if it is the first time. Whenever the Desktop is saved through this option the pathname is requested.
To save it under another name, follow these steps:
- Use the "Save Desktop As..." entry to display the dialogue box that lets you to select the location.
- Choose if the desktop is to be saved remotely in the server or locally, stating any of the following options
- "Local Files": where you must also state the path and name of the desktop.
- "Remote Files": stating the name of the desktop in the server.
- "Recent": stating a recently used path and the name of the desktop.
- Confirm changes with the "Save" button.
Whenever a Desktop is saved, the views included in it must also be saved, if these have been modified.
The following picture shows the dialogue box that lets you save the desktop remotely.
Opening a Desktop
To open a Desktop it is necessary to:
- Use the "Open Desktop" option in the "Open" entry in the "File" menu to display the dialogue box that lets you choose the desktop.
- Choose the desired Desktop from the corresponding path.
- Complete the operation with the "Open" button.
The dialogue box that lets you open a Desktop is similar to the one that lets you save it shown in the previous picture.
Configuring the automatic opening of Desktops
Among the advantages of working with desktops there is the one of configuring O3 Browser in such a way that when opening that component, a given desktop is opened too.
There are two possibilities to choose a default Desktop:
- Always choosing the last used desktop
- Choosing a fixed, predetermined desktop
You may choose a default desktop in this way:
- Run the "Configure Default Desktop" entry from the "Tools" menu to display the dialogue box to select the desired Desktop.
- Select the "Open Desktop Automatically" checkbox
- Choose the desired option, according to the possibilities mentioned before
- "Open Last Opened Desktop"
- "Open the following Desktop", stating the name of the desired desktop.
- Confirm configuration by clicking on the "OK" button or cancel it with the "Cancel" button

Closing the Desktop
To close the desktop you have been working at you must use the "Close all containers" option in the "Window" menu. In this way, all elements in the Desktop on view are closed.
