When modeling a complete analysis solution, it is quite common to design a set of models that share a set of dimensions. O3 Designer offers a type of dimensional model that can declare these dimensions and then make them public for other models to use.

References to public dimensions allow developers to reuse dimensions defined elsewhere improving maintainability and reducing design time. The process of defining public dimensions models is similar to the one for traditional models regarding:

  • Dimensions, all four construction types are available (Standard, Edge, Range and Format)
  • Datasources, all types of datasources can be used

The main differences between public dimensions models and the rest are:

  • Measures, these models do not define any measures
  • Storage, these models need to be stored remotely in the O3 Server

This tutorial shows the procedure to define and use public dimensions.
